Dr. Christopher Bott Appointed Interim Superintendent of Schools
Dear Diocese of Albany Catholic School Community Members:
I was filled with mixed emotions earlier this month when Dr. Virgiglio informed us that he was resigning from his positions of Superintendent of Schools and Chancellor. Serving as his Associate Superintendent for several years has given me a unique view of the great leader, humble individual, and tenacious worker that he is. Dr. Virgiglio will be missed for a variety of reasons, and we all wish him the best of luck with his new leadership position at the New York State Education Department.
Diocesan leadership has asked me to serve as the Interim Superintendent of Schools, effective August 15. I anticipate serving in this role until a proper search can be organized to identify the next Superintendent of Schools. As I step into this role, I am filled with gratitude and enthusiasm for the opportunity to serve our vibrant and faith-filled educational community.
I am happy to report that Mrs. Terri McGraw has agreed to serve as the Interim Associate Superintendent of Schools, also effective August 15. Mrs. McGraw brings a wealth of knowledge and Catholic school experience to the role, which should prove to be invaluable during the interim period. Additional information about the operation of the Catholic School Office will be forthcoming during the month of August.
During this interim period, my focus will be on ensuring stability and continuity for our students, families, and staff. I am committed to upholding the high standards of academic achievement and faith formation that define our schools. I believe that a strong partnership between the diocese, school leaders, parish leaders, teachers and staff, and parents is essential for the success of our students. Together, we can ensure that our schools remain places where faith, knowledge, and service remain as priorities.
I am excited to embark on this journey with you and am confident that, with God’s grace, we will achieve great things for our students and schools during the 2024-2025 school year.
